• Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Must be a graduate of state-approved Certified Medication Tech program
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Experience in as a medication tech caregiver required
  • Must have current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Certificate preferred but not required

Below is a description of basic job duties though other related duties may become necessary as directed by Supervisor

  • Follows all policies and procedures for administering medications to residents
  • Compliant with infection control guidelines
  • Ensures narcotic count is accurate before accepting unit- notifies supervisor immediately if not
  • Sets up medication for residents and provides medication (under the direction and monitoring of a licensed nurse and according to physician orders)
  • Handles all medication accurately and carefully
  • Signs medication documentation confirming medications administered appropriately and timely
  • Orders or reorders medications
  • Assists with medical charting as directed
  • Notes and reports errors in medication administration immediately to supervisor
  • Assists in documenting and removing medications which are discontinued by attending physician
  • Destroys medications properly
  • Returns medications appropriately and timely
  • Allows residents to self-administer their medications per residence policy
  • Reminds and assists residents to take medication through verbal cues, suggestions, prompting and/or gesturing
  • Observes residents and verifies medication is ingested or applied as directed. Documents any instance if not ingested or applied including reason for refusal
  • Ensures no medicating is administered without a written, signed, dated order form from attending physician
  • Notifies supervisor promptly of any errors or reactions to medication by resident
  • Assists in monitoring and documenting all aspects of self-administering by residents
  • Assists in developing and implementing procedures to prevent medication errors
  • Assists with ADLs as scheduled or needed


  • Works in office and throughout residence
  • Subject to frequent interruptions
  • Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and in other positions temporarily as needed
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and families
  • Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses


  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
  • Must practice regular and predictable attendance
  • Must follow company policies including harassment, code of ethics, complaint procedures, safety, sanitation, confidentiality, dress code and resident rights
  • Must deliver quality resident care services to residents
  • Must deliver accurate, timely medication assistance services to residents
  • Must be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team
  • Must be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk and move intermittently during working hours
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. floor to waist, lift 10 lbs. waist to shoulder, lift and carry 40 lbs. and push/pull 40 lbs.
